Former Cal Pines Fire Chief Ron Sherer

Chief Ron Sherer (4200) passed away on April 8, 2023, unexpectedly, after being flown to Dignity Hospital in Redding, CA, on April 1, 2023, where it was discovered he had a massive brain bleed. Chief Sherer had only been retired from the California Pines Fire Department on January 16, 2023. Emergency Response agencies from all over the North State led a precession on April 10, 2023, for his family to bring him back home to Modoc County.

With the family's permission and because of the high volume of requests we have received, we are sharing the  Precession Video.

He continued his position as the Canby Volunteer Fire Chief even after retirement. He had been with the agency for over 47 years, responding to critical emergencies.

His loss has been felt around the entire North State and is a void that will go unfilled indefinitely.

The family is overwhelmed with gratitude and appreciation for all who have been checking on them and for the unconditional support the community has given them at this difficult time.
