After winning the best tasting water in California in 2019, Cal Pines CSD was asked to enter a sample into the National Contest, to compete against the winners from all the other states! The National Rural Water Association held its 21st annual water taste test in Washington D.C. on February 5, 2020 as part of the Rural Water Rally. Judges included water experts Edna Primrose, Assistant Administrator, USDA Rural Development Office of Water & Environment Programs; Diane Nellor, Clerk of the Senate Appropriation Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies; and Morgan Ulmer, Clerk of the Senate Appropriation Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies. Five finalists were selected from the state entrants and the top three were announced before a packed banquet room of over 300 people. North Marshall Water District of Kentucky took the first-place award, followed by Mapleturn Utilities of Indiana and Jenkensville Water Company of South Carolina who tied for the Silver Medal. The final Bronze Medal went toCalifornia Pines Community Services District from Alturas, California. Congratulations and thank to the water utilities and operators who make our water not only safe, but award winningly delicious.
